They don't make kiddie music. Ju-Taun is all about the grown and sexy.
Name: Ju-Taun Age: Hometown: A quick glance at Ju-Taun’s profile is quite deceiving. 4 Latinos in their 20s come together to form a music band. Maybe another Aventura? Then the soulful “Go Slow” pumps out of the speakers and all comparisons to the Kings of Bachata is forgotten. In fact, one can’t help but to think of the likes of “Boyz 2 Men” and “New Edition” when rocking out the melodies of “Yes” and “Go Slow”. Ju-Taun categorizes in the R&B genre citing the legends Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson as their main influences. Hmm…didn’t these guys ever listen to Hector Lavoe or Juan Luis Guerra? Well, considering only 1 out of the 4 members is of full Hispanic descent, the answer is probably not. That’s right Ju-Taun (pronounced zhu-tawn) consists of brothers Jake and James Evans, Peter Garcia and Samoeun Cheng. The young members of Ju-Taun began performing in local venues and on their high school stage while in their teens. "We would be performing for the same people at night that were teaching us during the day. We were singing grown folk’s music when we were still kids," reminisces James “J-Nyce” Evans. Since those early years as 4 unknown hopefuls from South Jersey, Ju-Taun has went on to achieve national recognition. Having performed in the same show as the Temptations, Ashanti, Avant, Jagged Edge, 112, Tyrese and fellow New Jersey native, Jaheim, Ju-Taun independently released their debut album “How Bad You Want It” to both critical and commercial success. While boy bands aren’t seeing the same popularity that they once had, there just seems to be something extra from Ju-Taun, the soul, the charisma or maybe just the fact that they are a lady magnet crooning cast, with enough diversity to satisfy the United Nations. And their chance to make it big might be just around the corner as Ju-Taun is now appearing on MTV's show "Top Pop Group" every thursday at 10PM beginning September 11th. |
